Lenten Reflections: Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested

Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested

judas 1Mark 14: 43-46 (NIV):

Just as he was speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.

Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.”  Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him.  The men seized Jesus and arrested him.

Questions:

Think back to a time when you were betrayed by a close friend.  What was that like for you?

Conversely, when have you betrayed a close friend?

Prayer:

Father, this betrayal by a close friend is shocking and heartbreaking.  However, if I’m honest, I have betrayed Jesus as well through my own sin.  Thank you for the grace extended me by the cross, which I am in need of daily.
